GSK, STEVENAGE

"Ahead together"

Location: Stevenage

Project Size: 245sq/m

Time on site: 4 weeks

Western Blueprint was appointed to transform the café within the busy ground floor reception of GSK’s modern medical research centre in Stevenage. Set against the backdrop of expansive landscaped gardens and framed by a striking glass façade, the space had immense potential—but customer feedback revealed it felt too clinical and uninviting.

In response, our team delivered a full design and installation that prioritised warmth, flow, and connection to nature—aligning with the client’s brief to "bring the outside in."

The final concept embraced natural materials and biophilic elements, thoughtfully selected to soften the building’s bold, geometric architecture while complementing the views beyond the glass. A reoriented counter layout improved customer flow through the space, guiding users from the entrance, past new ambient retail displays with integrated heated and chilled merchandisers, and into a revitalised seating area. Sections of feature flooring were introduced to subtly delineate this journey, enhancing wayfinding without the need for physical barriers.

Throughout the café, natural foliage and organic finishes were used to make the most of the abundant daylight, creating a calm, welcoming environment that contrasts beautifully with the clean lines of the building. The seating area was furnished with new furniture and decorated using the same natural design cues, reinforcing a cohesive, nature-inspired atmosphere.

This project exemplifies our ability to transform sterile, functional spaces into vibrant hospitality environments that elevate both brand and user experience.
